Africa investor (Ai) today confirmed that Dr. Hubert Danso, its CEO and Chairman, and the Chairman of the African Union’s Continental Business Network (CBN), and the African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank (AfGIIB), has been appointed to the New Global Financial Pact Summit High-level Private Sector and Finance Advisory panel, a flagship initiative of Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France.
As announced by President Emmanuel Macron at the G20 Summit in Bali, the Heads of State Summit to be hosted by the Government of France, will be organised in Paris on 22-23 June 2023 around the objective of establishing a new Global Financing Pact, through which the international community will commit to stepping up its efforts to provide financial support to the most vulnerable countries in addressing their most urgent and vital needs, while undertaking the necessary reforms of the international financial architecture, to foster an equitable global transition towards net-zero emissions and to achieve sustainable development in particular for low-income countries (LICs) and lower-middle-income countries (LMICs).
To deliver on this important agenda, four high-level Advisory panels have been established to table and examine proposals. The objective of the Private Sector and Finance panel which Dr Danso will serve on, is to provide concrete recommendations on how to mobilize private capital at scale for green infrastructure investments and foster the development of a vibrant private sector in LMICs and LICs. The panel will work across three key pillars: 1) leveraging the action of the public sector, particularly MDBs, DFIs, and ECAs to better finance the private sector; 2) providing an enabling environment to crowd in private funding at scale and speed; 3) North-South and South-South partnerships.
As a core investment leader in this esteemed High-Level Panel, Dr Danso’s role will be to provide structure, thought leadership, and guidance, to the strategic objectives of the panel, and share his vast institutional investment expertise and infrastructure investment experience, to assist shape the outcomes of the Summit’s private capital mobilization initiatives, highlighting the innovative model of the African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank (AfGIIB), which is rapidly establishing African Green Industrial Infrastructure, as a globally competitive investable asset class, through institutional investor-public partnerships (IIPPs).
