London, 20 August 2008. Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment research and communication Group, announced today that African Capital leaders will participate at the Africa investor Index Series Summit in Association with the NYSE Euronext, to be held at the New York Stock Exchange on the 15th September 2008. Confirmed African Stock Exchange leaders include: Sunil Benimadhu, CEO, the Stock Exchange of Mauritius; Maged Shawky, Chairman, African Securities Exchanges Association & Chairman, the Egyptian Exchange; Geoff Rothschild, Director: Government and International Affairs, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange; António Joaquim Cruz Lima, CEO, Angolan Capital Markets Authority; Hiran Mendis, CEO, Botswana Stock Exchange; Ekow Afedzie, GM, Ghana Stock Exchange; and Jussub Nurmamade, President & CEO, Mozambique
Stock Exchange.
The African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) is a supporting partner for the Ai Index Series Summit and Awards. The Africa investor Index Series (Ai100 & Ai40), which tracks over $600bn of African market capitalization, is the benchmark for global investors investing in Africa. Its Ai 40 investor's index, a weekly value traded adjusted, market capitalization weighted index, captures the most liquid and largest publicly traded stocks across 17 African stock exchanges. The Ai 40 investors' index has been on an upward trend of some 74.27% since its inception in December, 2005 and the Ai 100 has grown by 70.18%. This is largely attributed to the methodology applied by Africa investor's stock picking, which captures the most liquid growth companies, while at the same time diversifying to avoid exposure to price volatility in any one market.
Hubert Danso, Vice Chairman Africa investor, commented: "We are happy to again have the support of the African Securities Exchanges Association behind the Africa investor Index Series initiatives. The Ai Index Series Summit is a unique opportunity for the international investment community to meet the leaders from African Exchanges delivering world class returns for investors, and explore investment partnerships with Ai Index constituents at the same time."
CEO's of African-listed companies, leading fund managers, brokers and numerous investment banks have confirmed their participation in the Summit. The Summit will also facilitate one-on-one issuer investor meetings to enable institutional investors to meet African companies in an intimate setting to discuss high growth opportunities and the next wave of African Securities and IPO's.
Gregg Krowitz, Managing Director: Strategy/US International Listings, New York Stock Exchange said, "The NYSE has longstanding support for Africa and proudly hosted Nelson Mandela in 2002. We are pleased to be partnering with Africa Investor in hosting the Ai Index Series Summit & Awards in September to raise the profile of African businesses on Wall Street.
In addition as an international showcase of Africa's growing capital markets opportunities, Africa Investor will host its prestigious Annual Ai Index Series Awards at the exclusive gala awards ceremony on the evening of the 15th September at the NYSE. Both the Africa investor Index Series Summit in association with the NYSE Euronext and the Africa investor Index Series Awards represent an unprecedented opportunity for international investors and African capital market leaders to discuss investment partnerships at the NYSE.
The Ai Index Series Summit & Awards are sponsored by Oceanic Bank, British Airways, Thomson Reuters and are also supported by the African Securities Exchanges Association and the NEPAD Business Group.
